The Center has allowed the electronics industry to declare certain mandatory details on the label through a QR code on products manufactured after July 15 for a period of one year, a senior Ministry of Health official said on Saturday. the consumption.
But the industry will still have to declare mandatory details such as maximum retail price (MRP), phone number and email address on the packaging itself, the official said.
These changes have been made under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Goods) Rules 2011 and notified with effect from 14 July.
“Previously many declarations had to be given on the packaging itself under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Goods) Rules 2011. Now we have enabled the electronics industry to give certain mandatory declarations via the code form QR optional,” the official told PTI.
Additional mandatory declarations such as address of manufacturer or packer or importer, common or generic name of goods, size and dimension of goods and customer service are permitted via code QR.
If supplied via a QR code, there should be a statement on the packaging advising consumers to scan the QR code for other related details, the official said.
The option is given for one year because the government is trying to use the technology for the first time on a pilot basis and will decide to extend it based on feedback, the official added.
