Just months after the closure of two area stores, Ralphs announced he would host a series of recruiting events in October to fill 30 pharmacy positions and more than 1,200 retail jobs in southern California.
The supermarket chain, a division of The Kroger Co., will host a virtual health and wellness career fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6 to hire pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Another virtual hiring event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13 to fill store openings.
The grocery chain joins a particularly fast-paced job market in California and the United States as many employers struggle to attract workers. Retailers, fast food chains and many logistics companies are looking to hire thousands of people before the holiday shopping season. At the same time, a survey of employers showed many people want to quit their jobs because they don’t feel valued where they are.
Kroger recently closed a Ralphs supermarket and a Food 4 Less grocery store in Long Beach and another Ralphs in Los Angeles. Kroger called the three stores “underperforming,” and said his decision to close them was hastened by COVID-19’s “risk pay” that bolsters cities mandated for grocers.
The temporary hourly wage increases were $ 4 at the Long Beach store and $ 5 at the Los Angeles location.
Ralphs said he is looking for full-time and part-time workers in Southern California for production department and central aisle staff, in addition to cashiers, courtesy clerks and fulfillment workers. online orders for its Ralphs Pickup service.
Full-time and part-time positions are also available at the company’s manufacturing and distribution centers. Director of Human Resources LeAnne Romesburg said the jobs offer flexible hours, competitive pay and health care, retirement benefits and tuition reimbursement.
Ralphs did not say what the different positions pay, but the data from Indeed.fr show that cashiers average $ 15.58 an hour in Los Angeles, while pharmacy technicians average $ 41,682 a year, or about $ 20 an hour. Pharmacists average $ 146,602 per year and warehouse receivers average $ 41,734 per year.
The Kroger family of companies offers workers access to its Feed Your Future program. It offers employees up to $ 3,500 per year and up to $ 21,000 over the course of their career with the company to improve themselves through education.
Ralphs employs approximately 18,000 workers who are employed in 184 stores across Southern California and the Central Coast.
