Green Bay Packers headquarters in Bellevue Idaho

At the time, I could afford to buy gas and often drove to Blaine County on Saturday mornings. I would often be the first customer at Mahoney when the front door opened for lunch at 11:00. I am an early riser and late morning is my mid afternoon. Wish the place was a bit closer because when it comes to comfort food it’s out of this world.

I had chicken wings on my first visit. It was several years ago. From my palate perspective, Mahoney’s wings are the best in Idaho (it’s tied for first place with Buster’s in Hollister). Good wings are not served in soup. The sauce is like icing. Good wings are not pink inside. Blue cheese sauce and dressing add a little moisture to dry, white, fully cooked chicken. Mahoney’s is right on all counts.

The place is an oasis for Minnesota sports fans. Most. Founders like the Twins, Timberwolves and Golden Gophers. And then there’s the Wisconsin football team. It’s a Packers bar. The owners were from Rochester, near the Wisconsin border. Their father was born on the other side of the great divide. So it’s green and gold versus purple and gold.

They will treat Vikings fans with decency. I had a conversation with one of the guys on a Saturday about Fran Tarkenton. He agreed, the jammer was a great competitor and quarterback. Few quarterbacks have had a decent record against Green Bay in the last 60 years. Tarkenton owned the Packers in the 70s!

Mahoney’s is easy to find. When entering Bellevue from the south, Mahoney’s is on the west side of the highway. You will see a large Irish tricolor flying outside. They will take good care of you!
