For a unique crew: McDonald’s is a family

During the morning of Monday, September 12, the McDonald’s franchise on East F Street in Oakdale was the scene of a special celebration. It was a gathering held to honor the four generations of Gutierrez family members who have worked there over the years, since the 1990s.

The family consists of Geovany, Rodrigo, Maria, Jessica, Ana, Mavelia, Esmeralda and Jorge; all of whom currently work at Oakdale McDonald’s, with the youngest member joining the team just a few weeks ago. The majority of family members bear the surname of Gutierrez; one couple bears the surname Dimas but all are related.

The owners who took over the Oakdale site in 2006, Jay and Geeta Hazari, presented the family with gifts to celebrate their hard work and dedication.

Each family member received their own bouquet of flowers, a surprise check, a plaque and an engraved wooden picture frame that read “McDonald’s is Family” with a picture of the whole family inside.

The entire restaurant inside was decorated with the famous red and gold balloons, and tables filled with snacks and pastries alongside a McDonald’s-themed cake with fondant shaped into the shape of chicken nuggets and fries.

Good Day Sacramento joined in the fun by featuring the family live on TV and even got to ask daughter Mavelia a variety of questions like, who cooks the best fries in the group.

Mavelia started working at the local McDonald’s in 1999, restaurant officials said, and now her mother, father, daughters, niece and grandson also work there, and family members all have their own unique restaurant roles, from shift manager to kitchen team to service team coach.

“We couldn’t do it without one of you and with all our hearts we want to say a big thank you,” said Geeta Hazari.

The General Manager presented the main plaque to the family and thanked them for their efforts to support the golden arches.

Most of the time, family members work morning and afternoon shifts together, which keeps family dynamics and the workday flowing.

Longtime staff members agreed they were honored to have been part of the franchise so far, giving their all to their McDonald’s family.
