Disney unveiled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Ant-Man and the Wasp crossover merchandise for Disney Cruise Line’s Worlds of Marvel restaurant.
As the MCU pushes for diverse expansion throughout Phase 4, Disney Parks and the Disney Cruise Line have also provided new ways for fans to experience the MCU, one of the latest being the Worlds of Marvel restaurant at aboard Disney’s new ship, the Wish.
At Worlds of Marvel, MCU fans enjoy a themed dinner and the Avengers: Quantum Encounter show filled with MCU cameos.
The premise of quantum encounter is one of an Avengers tech showcase where Ant-Man and the Wasp are on hand to demonstrate Pym’s latest technology, the Quantum Core.
These devices are capable of growing and shrinking items at the touch of a button. audiences are called upon to use technology to defeat an iconic MCU villain.
For fans to commemorate their own superhero origin story, replica Quantum Cores that double as keepsakes (and feature lighting effects!) have been available for purchase since Wish departed.
But now Disney has revealed several new Worlds of Marvel sippers to celebrate. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and 2023 Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Disney Reveals Exclusive Black Panther 2 Collectibles
In an exclusive interview with The Direct, Disney Imagineer Danny Handke discussed the inspiration and storytelling behind the new Marvel Studios-themed Worlds of Marvel collectibles. black panther 2 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
The first item is a Coca-Cola oversized collectible can that was just released on November 11 for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
According to Handke, this item is not from Wakanda but rather inspired by the Black Panther’s “heroic” and the “Wakanda Awareness Program” which King T’Challa instituted in late 2018 Black Panther:
“From a story perspective, this is not Coca-Cola bottled in Wakanda, but rather a product of the western world inspired by the heroism of Black Panther and the Wakanda Outreach Program.”
Handke explained that the idea for this particular Coca-Cola collaboration came from his own visit to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge where Coca-Cola products were “integrated seamlessly into the history of the earth:”
“We worked closely with our partners at Coca-Cola and the filmmakers of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to create this unique collectible for Worlds of Marvel. The inspiration came from a visit I had to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and seeing how Coca-Cola was seamlessly integrated into earth’s history with the thermal detonator vessels tagged in Aurebesh.”
“I went back to my team and we thought about how this concept might translate to the Marvel Universe – and we were all drawn to the idea of what an aluminum coke can might look like.” real world” in the Wakandan translation.”
As for that “Wakandese translation,” fans will find that one side of the box is entirely in Wakandan while the other is in English.
Now, since this keepsake was meant to honor Black Panther and serve as an extension of the MCU, Imagineering was “meticulous about storytelling for this unique vessel” who crossed “several design iterations.”
For this design, Imagineering has incorporated “elements of the costumes of Black Panther”, as good as “Wakan models.”
While the Black Panther’s collar stands out as one such influence, much like the costume and other Wakandan clothing, the background is made up of intricate yet subtle designs and patterns.
Now, it’s worth noting that this isn’t Worlds of Marvel’s first nod to Wakanda or Black Panther.
With the restaurant being a technology showcase, Wakanda is one of the producers of the experience’s story, along with Stark Tech, Pym Tech, and WEB from the Disneyland Resort’s Avengers campus.
This is why, as Handke explained, the features of Worlds of Marvel “Wakandan translated Coke products on our digital signage and menus.”
One final detail that fans are sure to notice is that the box comes with a Pym disc. Indeed, the box is giant in size, just like the Hulk-themed Pingo Doce ships sold at Avengers Campus.
“Think of it like AvengerCon in Ms. Marvel or Rogers: The Musical in Hawkeye,” Handke explained, “It’s Coke’s worldwide tribute to the hero Black Panther.”
The Coca-Cola can is now available at Worlds of Marvel and the Avengers campus at Disneyland Resort.
The second new item for Worlds of Marvel is the Black Panther Edition Quantum Core sipper inspired by Wakanda’s legendary protector.
Instead of the standard gold and black color scheme of the Quantum Core, this commemorative version is accented with purple to evoke Black Panther’s Vibranium technology.
Handke also noted that the Quantum Core issue is a tribute to Black Panther’s comic book history since T’Challa was first introduced in Fantastic Four #52 in 1966.
This memory was published on November 11 in collaboration with Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverand is available exclusively on Disney Wish.
Disney unveils new Ant-Man 3 collectible
Even though black panther 2 and its just-released Quantum Core Special Edition, Disney already has plans for more.
February 17, 2023, the same day as Ant Man 3 arrives in theaters, the Wasp Edition Quantum Core will debut at Worlds at Marvel.
This Quantum Core has swapped out the original’s black and gray color accents and its issue is an ode to the year Janet van Dyne’s Wasp made its comic book debut in 1963. Tales to Astonish #44.
While audiences don’t yet know what the threequel has in store for the MCU’s live-action wasp, the fact that it’s a quantum core – and the movie is titled Quantumania – makes it all the more interesting.
Disney’s Other Marvel Merchandise Arrives
Along with these three new Marvel-inspired memorabilia, Disney has yet another Marvel collectible in store.
While the release date has yet to be confirmed, an exclusive stainless steel tumbler reflecting the worlds of Marvel Avengers: Quantum Encounter the poster is expected by the end of the year.
Among its characters is one of the new stars of the MCU and major characters in the quantum encounter experience, Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel.
As the Disney Park and Disney Cruise Line experiences are cinematic in nature and through their execution, it is a tradition for Disney to release a poster for its attractions.
Not only does this additional memorabilia reflect that tradition, but Danny Handke’s own expertise as the author of both editions of Disney Parks Posterthe last of which was released in October.
Finally, if the world of Disney theme parks is considered a “Variant of the main MCU timeline,” these new commemorative keepsakes are another way Disney is bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe to life.
Additionally, Handke’s own words are a testament to Disney Imagineering’s passion and commitment to creating these MCU-inspired items and experiences for its fans.
